Vivian Rhule is a visual artist working mostly in textile and print but always with an unlimited approach to technique and medium, Vivian often deals with subjects that reflect personal interests and her experience of disability and being a London raised Jamaican living Wales.

With a passion for arts participation, engagement and education, Vivian creates simple processes for accessible visual art education that celebrates and educates.

Vivian artwork is informed and inspired by a nurturing inquisitive love of people place language stories, Caribbean / Welsh plants, and herbs.
Vivian say’s ‘My early art development was through my childhood experience of disability and a having a determined mother who treated her 7 children all equally. The yearn to be a nurse like my Windrush generation mother led to my interest in nurturing people and herbs.
My ‘mother's magic’ of look and listen; from eating a tomato then planting the same seeds on the same day; she could grow anything she put her hand too.
The wonder of watching the unravelling an outgrown jumper teaching me how to wind the wool into a ball. And my mother re knitting, the wrinkly wool into a new cardigan for my brother or sister.
The reusing transforming. That transformative process and need to reuse has informed my ventures experimenting with textiles and mark making.
My curiosity for the power of nature was, inspired by my mother telling me names and herbal uses of Jamaican plants and vegetables when cooking.
I have an interest in plant folk language and names /naming of plants the history of their journeys across the globe, given inherited names, the people involved in their journeys. People’s connection to the land their view of its sustainability and the keeping and expression of their cultural languages.’
