My practice is driven by a constant desire to learn, experiment and work across disciplines to tell stories in different forms.

We will be in the yard with our May, June Spotlight artist Kyle Legall, Thursday 25th June at 17:00 (UK time).

Kyle is a multidisciplinary visual artist working across animation, film, painting, design and direction. His practice is rooted in storytelling and shaped by a background in animation and multimedia.

This powerful documentary - by Nkechi Allen-Dawson and Billy Mazoya, produced and directed by Prof Florence Ayisi - traces the experiences of Caribbean migrants who arrived in Britain following the arrival of the Empire Windrush in 1948, answering Britain’s call for workers during a period of national reconstruction.

Join us in the yard as we gently hold space for our September, October Spotlight artist Ophelia Dos Santos. Ophelia is a Welsh textile artist and researcher based in Cardiff, South Wales. Viewing the world through textiles, her work explores the relationships between fabric, culture, and communities.

You are invited to join us in the Laku for an hour with our lovely Spotlight artist Irene Mejane Epie.

Irene is a multidisciplinary artist based in Yaoundé, Cameroon. Drawing on her rich experiences across Africa, Europe, and North America, Irene's work explores Cameroonian traditions, identity and African womanhood.

Join us in the Laku on Thursday 26th June at 18:00 (UK); 13:00 (TT) as we hold space for our Spotlight artist Brianna McCarthy.

Brianna is a mixed media visual communicator working and living in Trinidad and Tobago. She is a self-taught artist and aims to create a discourse that examines issues around beauty, stereotypes, and representation. Brianna works through masking and performance art, fabric collage, traditional media, and installation pieces.

A k u z u r u is an avant-garde TransDisciplinary artist whose praxis straddles multiple approaches . Primarily environmental, using vast spaces in the natural world whilst connected to the spatial appropriations of architectural spaces, her other worldly forms in her epic performative aktivations and installations inoculate into the viewer deeply indelible multi sensorial emotive experiences.

Joshua is a painter of Ghanaian and British heritage exploring Black identities as they exist in-between cultures and families - subverting homogenous narratives.

Between 16th -20th June 2024, we will be hosting New Orleans' very own Michelle N Gibson. Michelle N Gibson is a choreographer, cultural ambassador, educator and performing artist.

Michelle N Gibson is a consummate storyteller, employing body and mind to build a bridge between the arts and academia. Her teaching and chorographic practice comprise genres of the African Diaspora, Contemporary Afro Modern, Afro Funk, Jazz, and her own New Orleans Second Line Aesthetic. Michelle N Gibson's 'The New Orleans Original BuckShop' engages communities and participants in the culture and Diasporic traditions of Black New Orleans - as it pertains to the rooted history of the city, through dance, language, art and music.

As part of this Residency, we will be hosting a lunchtime Performance Lecture by Michelle N Gibson. This is a fantastic opportunity to meet the resident artist and experience her practice and process.
